Saint Francis to launch scholarship honoring the late Rick Miller
November 10, 2023
Rick Miller’s inspirational words stuck with those who heard him accept the Leepoxy Award for Teaching Excellence in the fall of 2022. “Lead with hope and walk with courage,” he said, motivating students and colleagues through his acceptance speech, which served as his last lecture at the University of Saint Francis.
As we approach one year since Miller died from prostate cancer, Saint Francis will honor his dedication to his faith and his students through the creation of the Rick Miller Faith and Integrity Scholarship. The scholarship will support books, tuition, and room and board for awarded students.
Miller started the Saint Francis computer sciences program, served as director of the Division of Computer Arts and Technology and inspired many students over the years. He previously served as the senior network engineer at his alma mater, Huntington University, and had also worked as director of IS Operations at Parkview Health Systems.
Miller always shared his life journey with students, from his faith to his field of expertise to his journey with terminal cancer. Miller’s influence extended to nearly every student he encountered, and his reputation as a kind soul who understood the big picture spread throughout the campus.
“Rick Miller taught us the meaning of life beyond computers and technology,” said alumnus Sam Eastman (BS ’21).
Alumni and others can contribute to the Rick Miller Faith and Integrity Scholarship Endowment Fund through the Saint Francis Giving Page. For more information, contact Director of Development for Academic Initiatives Dr. Andrea Geyer at 260-399-8051.
