USF Holding Auditions for Sister Act: The Musical
August 23, 2017
FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The University of Saint Francis School of Creative Arts will be holding open auditions for its upcoming production of Sister Act: The Musical. Auditions are on Sunday, September 10, at 6 p.m. at the USF North Campus, Room 209, 2702 Spring Street. The production is being directed by Brad Beauchamp.
Based on the 1992 hit comedy movie of the same name starring Whoopi Goldberg, Sister Act: The Musical is set in the 1970s, and contains all new original music written by Alan Menken. The plot follows Deloris Van Cartier, a lounge singer with dreams of stardom. She witnesses a murder and is put in protective custody in the one place the cops are sure she won’t be found: a convent. Using her unique dance moves and singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community but, in doing so, blows her cover. Soon, the gang is giving chase, only to find themselves up against Deloris and the power of her newly found sisterhood.
The production team is looking for a diverse cast of singers/dancers/actors ranging in age from 17 to 65 or older. Auditionees are asked to prepare an up-tempo verse and chorus from any song in the style of the show (1970s) and to bring sheet music in the correct key. An accompanist will be provided. At the time of their auditions, auditionees are asked to communicate all known conflicts that may interfere with rehearsing and performing.
All auditionees will be required to participate in the movement audition and should wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to move. Basic choreography will be taught that will reflect the high energy and disco style of the show.
PLEASE NOTE: The role of Deloris Van Cartier has been cast.
Audition callbacks are Monday, September 11 beginning at 7:30 p.m. Performances will run November 3-5 and November 10-12.
