Higher Learning Commission Approves USF as an Official “Teach Out” Institution

March 29, 2017

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — On March 27, the Higher Learning Commission approved the University of Saint Francis (USF) as a “teach out” institution for students from Saint Joseph’s College (SJC) in Rensselaer, Indiana.

As a teach out institution, the University of Saint Francis is committed to helping SJC students who are projected to graduate no later than August 1, 2018. USF will provide equivalent courses so these students can graduate on time in their degree programs, and will also work to match their previous SJC financial aid packages.

This means that for the qualifying teach out students, USF will:

  • Accept Saint Joseph’s College credits
  • Match Saint Joseph’s College students’ financial aid packages
  • Help teach out students graduate on time with their senior class by August 1, 2018

SJC students will benefit from USF’s free application process and ample on-campus housing options. Students and families are encouraged to contact a USF transfer counselor for personal assistance.

In addition, USF is providing a generous transfer and financial aid package to students who need to transfer from SJC but do not qualify for teach out status. Freshman students who are already admitted to SJC for the fall 2017 semester are also encouraged to apply online as USF offers competitive scholarship aid to incoming freshmen.

“As one of a select few institutions chosen to be part of the teach out program, we consider this a tremendously important responsibility,” said USF Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. J. Andrew Prall. “Just as we strive to deliver an optimum higher education experience to USF students, we extend that same commitment to Saint Joseph’s College students.”

In February, SJC announced it would be suspending operations at the end of this academic year.
